How do you decide whether surgery is needed?
Surgery is a decision, not a starting point. The first appointment is an examination: a video-endoscopic look at the nose, throat or ear, hearing tests where they are relevant, and a conversation about how the problem behaves through the day and through the night.
Some findings respond to medication, to allergy treatment, or to a change in what you are exposed to. Others are structural, and a structure does not change with a spray. The examination is what separates the two.
If an operation is indicated, you are told why, what it involves, and what the alternatives are. If it is not indicated, you are told that as well.
